Google still leads the way in the search engine stakes but Bing has been rolling out a raft of frequent updates for its service this year and September will see several more arrive including a supercharged Visual Search and text transcription.
Visual Search made its debut earlier in the summer but Bing has now made a few improvements to make it easier to use. Users will now be able to drag and drop their own image or copy, paste an image URL or take a photo directly via a smartphone app to complete a search.
With a new NFL season upon us, Bing will also provide more complex answers to anyone making queries about American football teams, matches and players. The latest update is rounded out by a new educational service, a maths solver and text transcription, which feeds into the new Visual Search.
Bing Ads is also making a few changes. Machine-learning powered insights will give marketers the power to analyse the performance of content via a new hub serving up more information. A competition tab will also provide auction insights for ads and other recommendations to help brands better manage their campaign budgets.
Bing Ads engineering lead, Dare Obasanjo added: “We have begun applying machine learning to your campaigns to understand their typical performance characteristics so that when a change seems out of the ordinary, you’ll see a performance insight notification which you can click on to see our root cause analysis of why that spike or dip occurred.”
