You already know the importance of maintaining a blog for your business. You’ve worked hard to keep it up to date with fresh, high-quality content and it’s paid off with increased pageviews, social media shares, and comments. Now is the time to turn your focus to converting all that traffic to leads that will boost your bottom line.

Here are some tips to improve conversion rates from blog traffic:

  • Create a call to action

Every blog post should include a call to action. While it’s great to encourage readers to leave a comment or share your content on social media, leaving them without an opportunity to engage further is a lead lost. An effective call to action should get visitors to download, subscribe, sign up, contact you, and so forth with persuasive visuals and a benefit-driven sense of urgency.

  • Consider retargeting

Unfortunately, creating a great CTA isn’t always enough to guarantee that every visitor to your blog will follow through. This is where retargeting can help. Retargeting is a means of keeping your brand in front of customers’ eyes even after they’ve left your site through targeted ads that follow them to other websites. There are a number of services available that can help you incorporate retargeting into your blog.

  • Offer exclusive content

Another great way to convert leads from your blog is to offer visitors exclusive or upgraded content in exchange for registering, signing up, or subscribing to your email list. Examples include free templates, e-books, checklists, online courses and webinars, but there really is no limit to the kind of content you can offer your readers.

  • Be more persuasive

Taking the subtle approach to lead conversion may seem wise, but it won’t always convince cynical consumers to hand over their personal information. Try incorporating some basic principles of influence into your posts to boost your brand’s powers of persuasion, such as:

  • Authority
  • Commitment and consistency
  • Likeability
  • Reciprocity
  • Scarcity or exclusivity
  • Social proof such as testimonials and reviews
