If you are a site owner, you know that you need to keep your site stocked with fresh content on a regular basis. Internet users are always hungry for information. If you let your site stagnate for very long without updating it, you run the risk of losing traffic.

In much the same manner as how a bakery has more trouble moving day-old products, a site owner has difficulty keeping traffic numbers up if they don’t provide their visitors (who are all potential customers, by the way) with something new to peruse at regular intervals. Not only will traffic fall off without regular installments of fresh content, but your site ranking on the major search engines may fall off as well.

How can your content be used as a marketing tool? Here are a few strategies that can help you turn the words on your web site into sales:

Post Content on Article Sites

There are a number of web sites that will allow you to post articles with a link back to your web site. Posting your content on article sites helps you in a couple of different ways. First, having your content appear on other sites under your own name is a way to further establish yourself as an expert. Anyone who searches for your name online is going to be looking to see how many hits come up, as well as the type of information that you are releasing under your name. The more places that list your name online, the more you can build your brand as the go-to person in your niche.

The other way that article sites can help you use content as a marketing tool is to increase your site’s search engine rank. If the purpose of your site is to give you a platform to sell your own information products, consider posting an excerpt from your ebook or report online that the Internet user can access at no charge. Once they get a taste of the quality you are offering, it’s more likely they will reach for their wallets to order the full product.

Know Your Market

If you want to successfully use your content as a marketing tool, you need to know your target market intimately. It’s not enough to post content that is a rewrite of the same things that your visitors can find elsewhere. To truly serve your market well, you need to be keep an eye on trends that affect your customers and influence their decision to buy.

Your content should reflect the kinds of issues that matter to them. You may want to consider adding a custom news feed to your web site. That way, the stories featured are relevant to your site visitors. Over time, Internet users will come to depend on the content posted on your site to give them the information they need to know. The more often you can get someone to visit your site, the more likely it is that they will buy from you when they are ready to make a purchase.

Get Professional Help with Your Content

As a busy site owner, you have a lot of duties to occupy your time. While you may have tried to do all the work associated with your site yourself at the beginning, it’s not feasible for you to continue to wear all of the many hats involved with running the site.
