We like to keep our eyes and ears open here for new hardware platforms or gadgets that have the potential to change to way content is created, and while the emphasis is often on content writing or video production, today we’re focusing on music. Or rather, musicians: thanks to a new platform called Cypherr, they have an exciting new toy at their disposal that will help them network with fellow music industry professionals, upload their own music and submit it to management or executives, create and share musical content and even schedule local tours.
Cypherr’s arrival is very timely: traditional record sales have, it’s true, been falling, but huge (and growing) numbers of people are accessing music online. This means that, to reach their audience effectively, musicians have to cross a veritable assault course of different platforms. Cypherr changes all that at a stroke.
As the press release puts it: “Cypherr is an interactive platform that allows musicians to connect with fans, compete with other musicians, host their own tour (optional), and digitally submit demo records to music executives.” That’s a pretty exhaustive list of capabilities.
The days of musicians burning through swathes of precious time in hunting around for open mic and local competitions will be history if Cypherr catches on: they can use it to stage international competitions with other musicians – and earn the prizes and accolades if they win (they can request competition or accept competition from others via the platform).
And that’s not all. As the company’s Founder and CEO, Antonio Srado, puts it:
“Artists will soon be able to schedule their own tours as opposed to going through a middleman who may earn more profit than the artist themselves.”
It’s not yet fully hatched. BETA testing is scheduled for the coming few months, and in the first phase of development, musicians can look forward to a performance dashboard, artists and tour/event creation, access to playlist creation, a profile statistics page and an explore page that lets fans stream music (all of which will be ad-free).
Under the march of technological change, the days of making millions with a 360-deal may be fading for independent musical artists. But Cypherr has the potential to help them at least make ends meet doing the thing they love most: performing and creating music.
